Amazon and DVDs

So, I have an Amazon account. One I haven't actually used to order anything in about a year and a half, but I have one. A few months ago I started toying with the idea of becoming an Amazon Associate (tm), so I tried logging into my account. Um, what was the password again? Try all the usual combinations, no go. Okay, click on "Forgot your Password?" They want the last five digits of my CC or the zip of an address I've shipped to. Well, that's just peachy. I lost the credit cards I used there two years ago and none of the zips I remember of my last five addresses (in the last three years) works.

Okey-dokey, create a new account. Play around with Amazon, create a Wish List, and go on with life. Recently, I wanted to log back into Amazon. Duh - what was that password again? Sigh. And clicking on the "Forgot your Password" link doesn't work this time either because I haven't associated a CC or address with the new account because I haven't actually BOUGHT anything with the account. Double Sigh. Write a letter to Amazon Customer Service. The nice person who answers it confirms that, yes I DO have two accounts associated with the same email. If I'll call this nice 800 number or overseas free number, we can see about resolving this situation. BTW, it doesn't say that anywhere in the FAQ or Help. And none of the categories for Customer Service email address this. But I digress.

I called the nice overseas free number and spoke to a nice young man about my account. Unfortunately, because of security concerns, he can't unlock either account unless I can give the last five digits of a CC. Oookay, I haul out every CC I have and the past statements from the old ones and try each. Nope. He speaks with a manager and the only solution is to - you guessed it - create yet ANOTHER account. However, once I have a CC associated with the new account (at the same email address), I can call up again and THEN we can close the other two accounts.

So, I created another account. And decided I might as well buy something with the account, I mean I love reading, right? Well, I can't think of any books I want that I want to pay shipping on. That I can't probably get cheaper at the used bookstore on base. Oooh, how about DVDs??? So I searched around a bit. Roswell - a TV show that I LOVE and never saw most of the first season of - is out on DVD. At the end of the month. Oo, oo, Gilmore Girls is out too! At the beginning of May.

At this rate, by the time I find something I want to buy off of Amazon - that's available now- I'll have forgotten my password again! But don't worry, I picked something easy this time. I think. Posted by Jinglelady at February 10, 2004 08:03 PM | Previous Blog | TrackBack

Gotta try out the new comments :-)

One cool thing is that the product numbers are the same at amazon.com as at amazon.co.uk and amazon.de, and your login is good at all amazon sites as well. So when you find something you want at amazon.com, you can just type 'de' instead of 'com' in the URL to see if is cheaper here. English stuff is usually more expensive at amazon.de, but shipping is free and quicker. No Region 1 DVDs, though.

Hey Scott - Thanks for the tip! Maybe I'll buy a book from the DE website.
