Work today

Was really off. The day started with me turning off my alarm because I thought it was the weekend. Therefore, I woke up later than usual and got to work about 10 minutes later than usual. But that was okay because the network was down. And didn't come back up until about 10:45. So we couldn't work. We talked a bit about things we need to work on, and then I played around some more with Perl. I had a specific task in mind, and eventually figured it out.

Later in the day, the internet went....but this time it was a planned outage to upgrade something.

And I found out the new guy has been asked to leave the company. He's a little odd, but he and I get along. We do have a couple of common elements to draw us together though - Americans living in Germany, and hailing from New Jersey. Okay, I don't hail from there (I don't hail from ANYwhere - maybe Michigan, if being born there counts for anything), but I did live there for five years. And apparently I'm a cool intelligent chick because I "get" Perl. :) Back to the leaving the company bit: details are still hazy, but I've heard he's staying around until Christmas time. Work laws in Germany don't let companies just up and fire you. Not only do you have to give three months notice, but THEY have to give YOU three months notice. Sometimes this comes in the form of "You're fired, stay home, we'll pay you the three months to stay home", but still, you're not just shut out in the cold. He's back in work tomorrow, so I guess I'll hear the full story then. Posted by Jinglelady at September 24, 2003 10:37 PM | Previous Blog | TrackBack
