The train this morning

I went to the train station this morning at 9am, hoping to catch the 9:01. It didn't come. I know I didn't miss it b/c there were lots of ppl on the platform. 9:11 comes and goes - no train. No announcement, nothing. 9:16 comes, and the 9:16 train comes. Goes through Offenbach just fine. STOPS dead the minute it hit the Frankfurt border. Something about a work problem. Stops for minutes at each station it comes to. I *finally* got to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof at 9:50ish. ARGH.

That's one bugaboo I have about the German railway system. Unless the train you are trying to catch is a regional or higher class train, you don't receive ANY notice that the train is late or not coming. At least here in Frankfurt you don't. I seem to remember better a better announcement system in Munich. That was nice - practically all the main train station stops had LED panels showing the next four or five trains that were supposed to come and their expected arrival times and any notices of it being late. Here it's just an old fashioned flip screens. Only the Hauptbahnhof has a big flip screen for the local train - and it's not always up to date on notices of lateness.
