Mainufer Fest This is a
Mainufer Fest
This is a small festival that is happing in my town. Directly on my street as it happens. The big square block behind my house is full of Bier tents, Wein tents, various ethnic food tents, and club informational tents. Oh, and music, more music, and MUSIC. :) Last night one of the disco clubs in town had an open air disco down the street inside the school courtyard. They were playing a good mix of 80's Hip Hop. And if the DJ would have shut up more and transistioned the songs better, it would have been an excellent mix! :) Why do DJ's feel this need to interrupt the songs they are playing with phrases like "Wassup Offenbach?" and such.
Anyway, Bill and our friends Joe and Deb came over and we walked around, drank some bier, walked around, ate a crepe or a bratwurst, drank some bier, sat down for a while, drank some more bier, danced, etc. :) A good time was had by all. And since we were feeling good and didn't come back upstairs to sleep until 1am or so, we didn't mind that it didn't get quiet downstairs until 3am or so.
This morning they opened the bier tents up at 10am, and the crowd is starting to gather downstairs. One tent has an offer of 1Euro biers from 10-1, so they're probably doing a good business right now, especially among the older German man population.
Oh, ufer means river bank/edge, so Mainufer means the bank of the Main. I learned that on Thursday when a colleague had a bbq after work and told me it would be at the Mainufer. I thought this was special place, so I asked, and had that explained to me. I learned at least three German words this week: fluchen, ufer, und verabraidet (which isn't spelled correctly, but means previously engaged - as in meeting somebody-not a date- for dinner).
So, the plan for today is to fold my laundry, clean a bit, and eventually wander downstairs for a pretzel or crepe and a Raedler (bier/sprite mix).
