The Lange Nacht der Museen
The Lange Nacht der Museen was nice. Would have been a lot nicer with other people (besides the strangers) to share it with, and if I still wasn't in a mood from shopping earlier, but it was nice anyway. I went to four museums and saw exhibits that I'd been meaning to see. I would have liked to spend more time reading and examing the new World Trade Center proposals exhibit, but that place was PACKED. They had a Brazilian group doing a performance in the basement, but I couldn't see any of it, just hear the music. They also had an exhibit about a Brazilian architect who has made some very interesting and pleasing curvy lined buildings. If I ever get to Brazil, I'd like to see them in person.
The Rembrandt exhibit was lovely. His facial portaits are so full of personality! My only complaint is the darkness of some of them. For awhile I thought this was an age problem - pollution/dirt/etc darkening the paints over the years. But after seeing paintings of his that were absolutely rich & vibrant & FULL of color, I think this has to be a deliberate choice. It has the effect of drawing the eye to the brighter parts of the painting (mostly the eyes, nose and chins). However, it just leaves me depressed. These are portraits that give you a sense of the person so much so you can almost tell what kind of personality the person had, but they all have an air of depression because they are dark. I think I should talk with David about this sometime.
Okay, tomorrow I'm back on the working out schedule. I need to get back to it.
