Okay, I have some time

Okay, I have some time to kill....I'm waiting for a script to finish.

Last weekend I did some low budget sightseeing of towns around Frankfurt to try and figure out where I want to live.

Saturday afternoon: I took the SBahn north to Bad Homberg. It's a quiet, spacey, nice beautiful town with a nice park and very, very nice Sauna/Pool/Spa place. It might be interesting to live in the middle of town here, but I think it would be better to live in an apartment building on the Ubahn line between Bad Homber and Frankfurt. The Ubahn and Sbahn both go to Bad Homberg, but by different routes and have different stopping places in the town.

Sunday: I went to Darmstadt and Weisbaden. Darmstadt is a University city south of Frankfurt and Weisbaden is the capital of Hessen (the same state Frankfurt is in) to the west of Frankfurt.

Darmstadt looks like an old run down arty city. It's supposed to have good bars and nightclubs though. I was there during the middle of a rainy Sunday morning and didn't see that ... the shopping area downtown looks nice though. I saw a cute Pluto statue in a store window.

Weisbaden looked lovely. All old style big buildings in good shape, hills, and a lovely shopping area. I wandered around a bit and even the strong ethnic areas were nice. The only problem is 1) it's the capital so it's probably not that much cheaper than Frankfurt and 2) it's about an hour by Sbahn to Frankfurt. Maybe 25 min by regional train. So if I took a regional train to work, it wouldn't be so bad, but the extra cost might cancel out any savings.

I'll investigate various neighborhoods of Frankfurt this weekend. Posted by Jinglelady at November 6, 2002 12:01 PM | Previous Blog | TrackBack
