Däumchen drehen - to twiddle one's thumbs.
Posted by Jinglelady at May 19, 2004 05:08 PM | German Word (Phrase) of the DaySo what are you twiddling your thumbs about?
Posted by: Mom at May 19, 2004 05:18 PMNothing. I'm doing bug reports. I told Stefan that the other group is going to hate me because I'm reporting so many, and he said we don't want them to think we're twiddling our thumbs. In German of course, which is why I didn't understand, so he explained, and that's why it's my GWOD.
However, he said it in vulgar German (something about rolling balls) and I understood THAT right away, which he thought was funny. Wha? I know "Eier" is vulger German for balls (men's as opposed to Tennis) and even though I didn't understand the other word, I got the meaning loud and clear. :D

Posted by: Anna at May 19, 2004 11:07 PMThere are a lot of European hockey players in the NHL, and those that came from Russia or countries where it wasn't mandated to learn English, they generally learn their first words from their teammates. And, to a man, they generally say teach them the swear words first. LOL
