Heidelberg Monkey

20042205_heidelberg_monkey.jpg

This is an interesting sculpture that I saw in Heidelberg yesterday. The plaque next to it doesn't make any sense (even in German) so I went looking on the internet and found this explanation. Apparently there has always been a monkey on this bridge, and that is the only significance. Quirky and cute.

I have much to write about my Adventure in Heidelberg yesterday, but it will have to wait a couple of hours. I'm going to go try enjoying some of the sunshine outside. Maybe try to kill myself on my rollerskates along the waterfront.

Update: Here's the two mouses mice that sit next to the Monkey. They are the artist's signature. According to the info link above, there used to be only one mouse, but he got stolen, and these two are the replacement.

I'm going to visit my sister in Heidelberg next weekend, I hope the weather holds as it looks like you had nice weather.

Not sure if I'm going to see the monkey and the mouse though, as we already went there when I visited her two (or was it three?) years ago.

Did you go to Vetter's Restaurant? I had some very nice Bratkartoffeln there!

OK. It looks more like a cat than it does a monkey.... the fact that there are 2 mice next to it just kinda adds to that. But if you say it's a monkey........

Um, thanks for the grammer help Janine! ;)

And yeah Brett, it's a funny looking monkey, but that's what it is. {shrug}

Saw the monkey in may and was told if you touch it in certain places that each place brings different luck. I never touched his never regions which were very large lol. If you can, try and find out the different meanings of what bit has what powers.cheers all. Rita
