Yesterday was Bill's graduation from college. A goal he's been working towards for many years and yesterday he finally made it. It's a great feeling for him. He invited me, his ex (she helped him a lot and they try to remain friends) and his son.
Bill and I had a nice time there. The day was warm and sunny (and therefore they were all hot in their black gowns). A couple of the speakers were a little long winded, but that's par for the course too. And at the end he got a pretty piece of paper saying the diploma is in the mail. Woo hoo! Congratulations sweetie!
This was a really unique graduation because it was made up of primarily military members who take these classes in the evening or online or on the weekend. And the graduation was for all of Europe. So there were people from the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, etc there. I was surprised that some people would come from so far away to graduate. However, it IS a big milestone. The average age of the graduates was 35 and their average length of study time was 14 years! One guy had been working on his for 43 years!! That is a lot of dedication.
Bill's ex and son didn't show up. She's got some BUG up her butt, and is giving Bill the silent treatment. Wow. To be so grown up that you have to try and make somebody miserable because of some imagined slight. I can't imagine how good that feels. It's just as well. I wouldn't have enjoyed pretending to be nice for Bill and William's sake. It would have been nice for them to be there for Bill's sake to congratulate him, but if her showing up would have meant putting up with attitude, I'm glad she decided not to come.
Thanks for coming with me Anna, it was nice to have you there. Your such a special and loving friend. Can't express how much I apprecaite you being there. Hugs forever! Bill.
