The Kerry/Edwards people were at the Alte Oper today during lunch and I registered to vote. Well, I hope I'm registered to vote. I filled the card out and they're going to mail it off Monday from the Consulate. Thing is as I was filling it out, my boss shouted that I'm going to vote for Bush. I hope my card doesn't end up in the trash because of that. (Just kidding - sort of.)

Posted by: Valerie at September 24, 2004 05:09 PMYou are registered to vote! Just you haven't voted in the last two years. So you just have to tell them that you want to vote again. Which is reregistering.
Posted by: Mom at September 24, 2004 07:59 PMMom - which should all be accomplished by this form. And if I don't receive the ballot before Oct. 15th, I've got an emergency write-in ballot to send in. As long as they receive my registration card before the election, my write-in ballot should work too.
Posted by: Anna at September 25, 2004 09:24 AMI requested my absentee ballot three weeks ago, and sent them an e-mail yesterday politely inquiring about the hold up. Nobody answered. So now, Mrs. Margaret Parish, General Registrar of the City of Hampton, Virginia, will continue to get bothered daily until she answers my e-mail;)
Posted by: Duncan at September 25, 2004 11:06 AMIf you haven't registered yet, at http://www.overseasvote2004.com/ (sponsored by the Democratic National Committee :-) you can fill out an online form which produces a PDF you can print out, sign, and send to your local registration office. In most states, you can fax it in for quicker service (as long as you also mail in the original). There's even a toll-free fax number for Germany.
The government has a Federal Voting Assistance Program (for "Uniformed and Overseas Citizens") website at http://www.fvap.gov/ where you can get the same forms and information, if you don't trust the DNC.
Are there really that many Americans in FFM that they can register US voters at a public square? I guess I'm so used to Hamburg, where there were no US bases and Americans are an oddity.
