Fairchild Dornier is dead

My original German employer is officially dead:

Ende von Fairchild-Dornier besiegelt

Prototyp unterm Hammer

Flugzeuge unterm Hammer

Everything is on the auction block today and tomorrow in Oberpfaffenhofen, including the half built 728 prototype. It should be a one-of-a-kind auction.

I'm actually kind of sad to see it go. I had hoped that somehow the company and the program could be saved, but it seems it's not to be. Too bad really, it was a good project.

I had a great time while I was in Oberpfaffenhoffen. Even though the company was bankrupt for 6 of the 9 months I was in München, it was the best 9 months of my life. I had a great circle of friends, nice co-workers, a nice apartment to the southwest of München, and travelled a lot. Plus, my youngest brother came and spent two months with me in the summer.

Farewell Fairchild Dornier.
