It's official - I'm re-patriating

I handed in my resignation at work today. Being that it's Germany, I have to give three months notice at the quarter begin, so my last day at work will be around 30.6.2005. I say around because I might have some vacation days leftover until then and use them at the end.

I also have to give three months notice for the apartment, so I'll be calling & sending a letter to my landlord (Vermieter) tomorrow. The only things official left to do is write T-Online to cancel my internet, close my savings account at the bank, and call the movers for a date.

I'm moving to be with my babe, my honey, my fiance. :) Dallas, here I come!

What, you're leaving Germany? Well, that's a bolt out of the blue.

Not. :-)

Any chance of getting released from your work and rent contracts early? Three months is a long time to wait when you're all set to go.

Yes, I'm really shocked! And pleased for you. ;-)

And Scott has a point, it's often possible to get your employer to shorten that 3 months and you can present your Vermieter with 3 suitable Nachmieter and leave early...

Hey, I was wondering what your plans were, in light of your engagement. How do you feel about moving back, after living abroad for all this time? I hope your move goes super smooth. :)

We'll be glad to have you! You'll be getting here just in time to experience the, ahem, "joy" that is a Texas summer! :)

Yay you! I know you're super excited =) I hope we can get together again before you take off! Don't forget to say hi to Texas for me *g*

OH WOW!

That's exciting news! How do you feel about goin' back to the States? Will you miss Germany? You must be geeked! Gonna be with your honey... Nice!

Scott - :P It's a shocker, isn't it? As for getting out of my contracts early, I NEED these three months. Ebay some books, sell my couch & other assorted things I don't want to lug back to the States, last minute blitz Sight seeing & European shopping, etc. So the three months thing actually works out okay. :)

Neil - my man! You've been silent a long time! As for the suitable Nachmieters - I don't want to deal with that hassle. I tried that in Munich and my Vermeiter just went ahead with his Markler anyway....

Vivi - Thanks :) How do I feel? Well, obviously I'm super happy about being back with Bill, and as for the place, it doesn't really matter. I like the adventure of new places & home is where my family is. It's going to be odd being back in the States though. I'm going to have to ton down my "well, you know, when I was visiting such and such country....." or "I got this in Paris/Prague/Barcelona", etc. I'm sure it'll get boring after awhile. ;)

Marvie - definitely! I want to organize a yarn trip to Hamburg to visit that warehouse there. Have to fit it in between your & my trips though!

Alison - Oddly enough, I am going to miss Germany. There are things I don't like about the country, but there are things I've really gotten used to. Mostly I love how my German has really improved (and hate how my English has gotten worse). I love speaking a second language. I'm going to have to really work to keep it usable. I'm hoping to find a job that requires some German.

Hey! Congratulations on becoming officially engaged in the moving process. Enjoy yourself! It seems kindof nice to have the 3 months to "take care of things" like you mentioned. Do you get treated any differently at work - them knowing that you're leaving? I guess "they" have known that for a while though...

Posted by: Amy at March 29, 2005 10:30 PM

Right. Just leave me here to suffer alone! Go ahead! See if I care! :)

Okay, this means I have three months to make it down to Ffrurt to meet you in person? I think I her a beer on Roemerwhateveritiscalledthere calling me.

Oh, what'll happen to the blog after you leave? Will you continue it? Adventures of an American Girl who used to Live in Germany but now Lives in Texas?

Posted by: J at March 29, 2005 10:49 PM

Amy - Thanks! :) The boss isn't treating me any different. He's known it's been coming and when I told him today alls he said was "well, I was hoping you'd wait until the end of the year, but I understand. Love like yours doesn't come along that often & you have to take advantage of the situation". Which really really surprised me. This is the same guy who's in the process of "mobbing" another co-worker out and yelling at him all the time that his work is crap. Hmm....well, okay. Whatever. :) My other co-workers/friends at work are just sad to see me go. :(

Jay - hey! Come on down! (you're the next contestant....wait, that's a different program ;) ) I'd love to show you around Main-hattan. Not that there's much to show, but I'd enjoy a beer or three with you. ;) As for the blog, I've thought about it. I think I'm just going to shorten it to Adventures of an American Girl or something like that. And I'm definitely going to blog about re-patriating weirdness. Cause there WILL be re-patriating weirdness. I just know it. I've only been gone 3 years - 3.5 be the time I move - but sometimes it feels like 10.

What? You mean you will finally get to watch the current episodes of The West Wing?
Good luck.

A thought. Why don't we get several of us together for a 'meet Anna for possibly the first and last time' type of thing in Ffurt before you go? Perhaps on a Sunday.

Posted by: J at March 30, 2005 06:57 AM

OK, you guys can send me your hate mail (if you like.) LoL :) I won't tell Anna. I promise! I'll take good care of her and won't put web restrictions on her, so she can stay in close touch. Things aways go full circle, we'll probably be back. But for now; Come on home love!

How about: "Re-adventures of a re-American returning from Germany"? Or something ... :)

Peek-a-boo! I see you!

Hey, Anna - how cool that you're coming to the States! And congratulations on your engagement!
