I'm here people. I compose so many blog entries in my head, and then something comes up or I think I'll do it later, and well.....later never happens. So here's an entry I've been thinking of for awhile. :) [Yes, it's 2am. BUT, tomorrow is another holiday here (no, I don't know which one, I just know I have Thursday off), so it's okay that I'm up this late. ]
Using up all that stuff
I've known that I'll most likely be moving back to the States some time this year for about a year now. Bill and I discussed it last spring. His ex was being re-stationed to the States, and Bill wanted to be near his son. And we knew we were together for the long haul, so the logical conclusion is I would also be moving. Once everything was settled. Well, everything was settled back in March, so I gave notice and now, less than a month from now, all my stuff is getting packed up.
The point? Well, the point is, as I said, I've known for a year that I would be moving. So I started not buying new soaps just because I was bored with the current soap. I started using up the soaps. Let me tell you, I had no IDEA I had so many body washes! I have literally not bought a body wash or soap product in over a year, and I still have about three bottles to go through. I have a feeling some of them will be trashed. Liquid bottles + long term storage OR airplane rides = big gooey mess on other end of trip.
The same thing with shampoo. I think I bought a small bottle at Christmas time. I'm only now on the last bottle. I'll have to buy another one before I leave, but that's also a good two weeks off.
Hair styling products? I swear my hair spray multiplies by itself. I bought one (big) bottle of hair spray shortly before moving to Germany in January 2002. I still have this bottle! Admittedly, I do not use hair spray that often. And to worsen the situation, I've had two guests that left their hairspray with me when they left. So I've been rotating between the three. Two of these bottle are getting trashed before leaving. As for mousse - I thought I was out, so I bought a bottle last week. Then while going through the bathroom on the weekend, I discovered an older bottle. Ack!
I had the same problem with toothpaste for a while. Shortly after I bought myself a two pack of toothpaste, I received a dental care package from Janine - she was worried about the shape of my teeth and being an office manager for a dentist, she threw some freebies together with some informational brochures, and sent them to me. So I had PLENTY of toothpaste for the last two years. In fact, just yesterday I finally ran out, so I had to buy some today.
Folks - I'm not a person who over-buys products. This is just what happens over the course of time, and now I'm trying desperately to use them all up before I move.
So let this be a lesson to all of you who aren't moving - go through your bathroom closets and see how much products you don't need to stock up on! It's a great money saver! ;)
Posted by Jinglelady at May 26, 2005 02:15 AM | TrackBackI was wondering when you would put a new addition on the blog. I have been checking everyday and even though the car is cute - I was a little tired of looking at it!
Just a side note you should go through your bathroom and kitchen cupboards every year!
Enjoy those holidays! We don't have them in the States. Oh, I take that back - we do but, you don't get them off. Actually, you get MLK day off but, not Veterans Day explain that. One persons day is suppose to be better than the millions of Veterans that gave their lives to defend our freedoms. Ok, I am now off my soap box - but, I do not want to hear about any of my kids going to see Commie Jane's movie! Then I will get on another soap box!
Posted by: Mom at May 26, 2005 02:07 PMIf you have any books, magazines and/or other things in English that you want to get rid of, I have students that would probably like them.
Posted by: J at May 26, 2005 08:04 PMSounds like our house w/ all the body wash, ACK! If you get back over here & decide you need body wash... CALL ME 1ST before you go buy any, lol. Between me & Barbie, there are about a million bottles of the stuff at our house. Stuff like that does seem to multiply quite quickly doesn't it?
