Hamburg bound

This weekend I am travelling to Hamburg. A city in Germany I have not visited yet, and is on the list of cities to see before I leave. The only other "big" city in Germany I haven't visited yet is Hannover, and I don't see it happening. Oh well, just a reason to go to CeBIT next year! :)

Anyway, I'll be meeting Kimberly and possibly Josie there. We'll be visiting a yarn warehouse (oh mama!), and then just sight seeing. As a happy co-incidence, Hamburg is having their Long Night of the Museums on Saturday, so we'll be doing that too.

Any other suggestions for what to do in Hamburg? I'll be staying until Sunday evening, so I've got all Sunday to roam around too. Speaking of....I have to go book a hotel room now.

What is CeBIT?

Hope you have fun with Kimberly and Josie. I went to thier sites - I think the three of you will make a great team!

Went to the Long Night of the Museums site - the bus was making me sea sick and it was all in German. At least, I did understand some of it. Have fun!

CeBIT is a big computer convention.

We have a Long Night of Museums here too. However, we don't have many museums. Do you know when the Frankfurt one is? I'd love to attend it this year.

I would tell you to go walk around the Alster, but right now at least the downtown side of it is all ripped up because they are widening Jungfernstieg. Maybe you could take a boat trip on the Alster or the harbor? Make sure you go to the Fischmarkt on Sunday. You'll have to get up early, but it will be worth it. Maybe you can go after your Nacht der Museen? I'm not sure how long that night goes...but I think the Fischmarkt opens at around 4 a.m. Have fun!

Mom - Jay told you what ceBIT was, but it's the hugest technology convention there is outside of California. Any self respecting geek would be ashamed that I haven't managed to attend one in the last three years. Oh well. :( As for Hamburg - I plan on having fun! :)

Jay - I've got some old Sci-fi magazines that I'll bring to our meetup tomorrow. If any of your students are sci-fi fans, they'll love 'em! I'll look around and see if there's anything else (that isn't already on ebay - my nick is jinglelady96). As for the Frankfurt Lange Nacht, it's already happened for this year. It's always within a week of the Spring time change at the end of March, so look out for it next year.

Sally - that's two recommendations for the fischmarkt - I'll have to go just to see it now. :) The Nacht der Museen lasts until about 2am, but I don't think I'll make it that late. So maybe I can catch the Fischmarkt around 8-9am.

If you weren't already spoken for I'd suggest having a few Hamburgers.

:P

I'm so jealous that you're in Hamburg. I lived there until 8 months ago, when I relocated to Los Angeles.

Hamburg is the BEST! You should have the best Italian ice cream at a place up the road from the Dammtor station a couple of bus stops (at Grindelallee -- it's right on the main street), definitely go to the Alster and soak up the beauty of the downtown area, walk down Moenckebergstrasse (the main shopping drag), head to St. Pauli to visit the Reeperbahn (red light district, but also where all the clubs are) just to imbibe the ambience (and you'll be about a mile from my old home) ... I'm also partial to the Elbe River and a drive down the Elbchaussee, which is a lovely road that takes you just inland of the Elbe. I'm homesick, can you tell? :)

Cheers,
Jennifer
