Goodbye Apartment

Today is my last day in the apartment. Actually, it's down to 2 hours and 10 min. Ack! I still have lots to clean. It'll get done.

So, goodbye apartment. It's been great. I hope your next renter treats you well. :)

I will have very sporadic web access for the next couple of weeks, so no complaints if this blog goes blank. Okay? We're heading to Scotland for 5 days. I've been taking lots of photos (and will take lots of photos), but no time to download, mess with and upload them. I will post a gallery of the best or most representative though. :)

See you guys later, the kitchen and the fridge are waiting to be cleaned......

Last Day of Work

Today is my last day. I think everythings going to hit today. It started yesterday - I was walking back from the dentist office and thinking - "wow, I probably won't see that again for a while, should probably get a photo", or "I won't be able to listen in on German conversations for awhile", etc, etc, etc. Started chocking up. Sigh.

BUT, thanks to my very good friends, the three S's, I can remember Frankfurt everytime I play Monopoly now. They gave me a Frankfurt Monopoly game last night! All the streets are Frankfurt streets and various well known Frankfurt institutions are also represented. Totally cool! Thank you! :D

And then there were two

....weeks to go that is. And what a whirlwind they are going to be!

This evening: dinner with family friends
Thursday: dinner and possibly card/board games with friends
Friday: last day of work! Woo hoo! Par-tay afterwards.
Sat-Mon: Budapest (where I'll be meeting a former coworker for drinks)
Tues: frantic last minute cleaning, meeting with the landlord, hoping to G*D somebody picks up my couch and bed by then

(anybody need a green and white striped couch for about 1/10th the original price I paid for it?? Or a bed with slats?? (140x200))

Wed - Mon: Glasgow/Scotland. I think we've decided to rent a car and just toodle around. I definitely want to explore Glasgow and Edinburough, but I haven't decided if we'll go south or north between the two cities. Any ideas?
Tues: free! Relax! sleep! Have dinner and drinks one last time with friends.
Wed: Leave Germany. (happy and sad faces)

Random Thoughts

If you complain to an American that Americans in general don't like to discuss politics, don't spend the next 20 minutes doing American bashing. Without conceding any points that she makes. And then don't go all quiet when she tries to discuss how the EU is falling apart and how German contractors were complicit in helping Saddam remain in power. Apparently American bashing is considered "discussing" politics. NO wonder no Americans want to discuss politics with you. If you're going to get up on your high horse and talk about moral high roads and talk down to the American about her/his country, well - you're not going to get much of a discussion. Your going to get an angry American. Or an American that walks away and won't discuss politics with you.

And say you're 17-19 years old. You're on a European trip (5-6 countries in 2.5 weeks) with one of your High School teachers - one of the coolest and nicest teachers you have. With about 100 other of your (not so) closest friends. Do you:

* enjoy this (most probably) first trip out of the United States, soaking up the cultures and sights.
* discuss what you've seen and how different it is from your home country
* shop for presents for family members back in the States
* or, pretend this is an all-inclusive Bahama vacation and see how many beers you can drink, different drugs you can try, how many hangovers you can get, how obnoxious you can be, oh and wander around one of the prettiest medieval towns in the country with your RAP music blaring through your headphones?

Of the 100 or so students, I'd say 80 are doing options 1-3 to varying degrees of success. It's those 5-6 who seem to be stuck in option 4 (plus the other 10 or so who like to wander in that direction every now and then), that REALLY give your tour, and Americans in general, a bad name. Stop it.

Countdown: 1 week down

Okay, I keep meaning to post here. But, obviously, I haven't. Sigh. No motivation. Tomorrow week one of the five week count down from last week is down - my brother arrives. And in typical Jinglelady Family Murphy's Law fashion - the flight is delayed! The only one on the schedule that is delayed! He should be going wheels up in an hour, but instead he's now scheduled for wheels up in 2.5 hours. Which means he'll miss his connecting flight to Frankfurt. Not to worry though, Lufthansa flys from there every two hours. So he should be through baggage claim and everything just in time for the hair appt I scheduled for 3pm tomorrow. Have to see if I can bump that up.

What else is new? My furniture isn't really selling (not impressed with the Insart classifieds), I haven't finished polishing my resume (which I've been meaning to do for a month now), and work is there. We're starting the knowledge transfer. Which is perfect because the project where I was a lead developer and has been running smoothly for the last 6 months? Today had problems. Not of my making, but perfect opportunity to introduce the other developer to the program. And the other monthly project I handed over to another developer three months ago and has also been (mostly) running okay? Today had data missing. So he got to experience how big the iceberg is underneath these couple of small monthly reports really is. Again, not of our making, but good learning opportunity.

And me? Slightly tipsy at the moment. Went out for drinks with two of the S's. Good time. :)

Count down: on

Ack! I just realized I only have 3 weeks left at work. 5 weeks until I fly out of Germany. OMG! 2 weeks until the movers come. Ack - really need to get moving on the selling of the furniture.

But the best - one week and my brother arrives in Germany. :)

So, if I want this to be a true countdown, I should put them in this order:

* 1 week - my brother arrives
* 2 weeks - the movers take it all away
* 3 weeks - last day of work - Par-tay!
* 4 weeks - we're in Scotland
* 5 weeks - fly, fly away. Leave my adventure, work, and friends in Germany. :( One step closer to being with my honey! :) And spending 2+ weeks with my family! :)

New home for the fishies

The fishies have a new home as of tonight. One of Stefan's family friends agreed to take them over, so we emptied the tank mostly out, put it in his car and drove them to their new "Zuhause". They are going to be very happy there. Their new mama is loads better at keeping the tank clean than I am and they have lots of new brothers and sisters to play with. :) It's going to be a LOT quieter here for the next couple of weeks.

On the way over to their new house, we drove through a couple of the littler towns around here. They're really pretty! They're right on the water, lots of country air, and not far from me at all. Well, not far with a car. And to cross the river we used a ferry. That was soo cool! I'm definitely going to drive back through these roads again when my brother comes. We'll have a rental car a couple of times - go out and shot some photos of the country side and ride the ferry. Really, that little ferry ride was so much fun. Yes, I'm easily impressed. :)
