My original German employer is officially dead:
Ende von Fairchild-Dornier besiegelt
Everything is on the auction block today and tomorrow in Oberpfaffenhofen, including the half built 728 prototype. It should be a one-of-a-kind auction.
I'm actually kind of sad to see it go. I had hoped that somehow the company and the program could be saved, but it seems it's not to be. Too bad really, it was a good project.
I had a great time while I was in Oberpfaffenhoffen. Even though the company was bankrupt for 6 of the 9 months I was in München, it was the best 9 months of my life. I had a great circle of friends, nice co-workers, a nice apartment to the southwest of München, and travelled a lot. Plus, my youngest brother came and spent two months with me in the summer.
Farewell Fairchild Dornier.
This week is a red-letter week for me! I've had two customer meetings so far, and another one is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Going over QS details with the customer so that he feels good about the values we're generating.
It's actually not too bad, but I have to dress up. I only have two suits and they've been worn already this week. Which means I need to either 1) re-wear one of them, 2) put on a dress, or 3) do a pants & blazer option. Option 1 isn't so great. Option 2 .... well, lets just say I only wear a dress about once every six months and then it's a special occasion. I used to like wearing dresses every now and then, but that was about 30 pounds ago. And Option 3 requires using an iron. I just have to decide which is the lesser evil.
I just agreed to be at work at 7am next Thursday in order to play a release change into Production. Argghhhhhh!!!! Any volunteers to call me at 6am my time to wake me up?
UPDATE: I might not have to be here. My boss is talking about running a script through an automatic process then. We'll see.
