Yarn and Lent

I was reading on Crochetville or the CO YahooGroups this morning about how somebody was giving up buying yarn for Lent and I thought - what a great idea!

And then I started thinking of reasons why this wouldn't work. None of which are truly valid. I have enough projects on the hook (um, Crochet Olympics sweater for one) and enough yarn for other projects in mind that I truly don't need to buy new yarn. But, but, but .... I like to pet the pretty yarns in Hobby Lobby and the Wooly Ewe and Michael's and.... but, I truly don't need it. My stash could use the reduction. And the internal fighting over not buying new yarn for 40 days is just proof that it IS the correct thing to give up for Lent.

So, I'm decided. And the first big test is going to be buying the gift certificate at KnitPicks for Lisa. I have been drooling over KnitPicks yarn catalogs for 3 months now and I was going to treat myself to a lot when I bought the gift certificate. But, I can wait 40 days. My pocketbook, my fiance, and my yarn bins will thank me. :-)
